The original for Magasinet is a wallpaper in the New Renaissance style, dated 1865-1890. The fragment was found in our own archive. The elegant medallion was popular and remained almost unchanged until the turn of the century. One of the most popular styles of the 19th century was the New Renaissance, which began its triumphal procession during the 1850s. The new styles sought a certain mood and style rather than outright historical accuracy. Shapes were taken from older pattern books and reworked into new variations. The patterns are symmetrical, often in the shape of a medallion. They often appeared in grey scale, with details in contrasting colours, often maroon and blue.
